The new Technology Center for Drone Security was opened yesterday at the national testing center for unmanned aerial systems in Cochstedt. Oliver Lichtenstein, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of the European Association for Unmanned Aviation, attended the event. Moving forward, technologies for the safe operation of drones, as well as for their detection and countermeasures, are to be researched and tested under realistic conditions at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) facilities in Braunschweig and Cochstedt.
„Industry-related research and targeted national and European funding programs“ were among the six key elements of the list of demands regarding drone detection and countermeasures published by UAV DACH in December 2025. Consequently, the newly established Technology Center for Drone Security in Braunschweig and Cochstedt is well-positioned to provide valuable impetus for both enabling commercial drone operations and addressing threat scenarios arising from illegal UAS operations.
UAV DACH welcomes all measures and initiatives that contribute to the safe and comprehensive use of commercial UAS technology. However, it must not be overlooked that innovation and technology represent only part of the solution. Particularly in the field of drone detection and countermeasures, unresolved questions about jurisdiction and funding often impede viable, long-term solutions. It is now up to the relevant federal and state authorities to provide appropriate answers as quickly as possible.
