Together Against Illegally Operated Drones

Technological progress opens up numerous opportunities, but can also lead to new challenges. One example of this is uncooperative, illegally operated drones. These pose a potential risk to air traffic as well as sensitive public facilities, critical infrastructure, and major events. In a joint working group, the German Aerospace Industries Association and UAV DACH are therefore working to create suitable technological and regulatory frameworks to detect illegally operated UAS in good time and to be able to defend against them in an emergency.

Over the past few months, the experts in the Drone Detection & Countermeasures working group have developed specific and practical recommendations for action to be passed on to the federal government, which could be incorporated into a national strategy for drone detection and defense. This strategy outlines the current state of the art and identifies the resulting need for action. In addition, evidence-based, technologically feasible measures for civil protection and internal security have been formulated.

An important basis for this was an expert survey conducted a year ago. In order to confirm the measures developed from this and refine them where necessary, the survey has now been updated. By participating, companies, institutions, and manufacturers of relevant technologies can make an active contribution to providing policymakers with recommendations that are as precise and fact-based as possible. And thus make an important contribution to ensuring that UAS operations remain safe in the future. Participation in the expert survey to supplement the recommendation for action on drone detection and defense for the German federal government is possible until September 12, 2025, at https://www.umfrageonline.com/c/p4kdhqkf (German language)
