The simplification and acceleration of application procedures for the approval of UAS operations in the “Specific Category” is at the top of the priority list when it comes to reducing existing hurdles for commercial UAS operations. In order to facilitate processing at this point and thus avoid unnecessary delays, the German Federal Aviation Office (“Luftfahrt-Bundesamt”) has revised the relevant application documents and created separate forms for
- the application for a new operating license in the “Specific Category”
- the application to amend an existing operating license in the “Specific Category”
- the application for the extension of an existing operating license in the “Specific Category”
which have recently become available and are to be used with immediate effect. Even if the new forms certainly do not eliminate all the challenges that still exist at this point, UAV DACH welcomes all initiatives that can successfully streamline bureaucratic processes and contribute to optimized cooperation between industry and regulatory authorities. Simplified and, where possible, digitalized procedures are an important factor in establishing UAS-based business models on the market in an economically sustainable manner and using drones across the board for the benefit of the general public.
