Cooperation Demanded to Protect Critical Infrastructure

The debate on the protection of sensitive areas and critical infrastructure from uncooperative drones has gained momentum due to the recent sightings of illegal UAS overflights of military facilities, and not just in Germany. As part of the EnforceTac trade fair in Nuremberg, the Application Group (AG) Public Security & Defense in UAV DACH therefore hosted a specialist conference on the grounds of association member Messe Nürnberg. In addition to the legal framework for dealing with unmanned systems, the agenda focused on specific questions regarding reliable detection and technical options for defending against uncooperative UAS. More than 30 participants took the opportunity to exchange ideas with other experts and discuss necessary measures, sensible technologies and regulatory challenges.

There was a broad consensus that increased cooperation between authorities and organizations with security tasks, politics, industry, interest groups and the Public Security & Defense working group is essential in order to achieve progress together. In very specific terms, it was agreed to draw up a position paper within the Application Group summarizing the most important challenges and possible solutions. The aim is to provide the authorities with specific recommendations for action and to promote constructive cooperation between all stakeholders.
