Drones are a valuable aid in business and society. However, just like other technologies and everyday objects, they can also pose a threat if misused. Detection and defense against uncooperative UAS are therefore becoming increasingly important, especially with regard to sensitive public institutions, critical infrastructure or major events.
UAV DACH member Dedrone by Axon invited members of the Bundestag to a parliamentary breakfast to inform them about technological achievements. Participants from politics, security authorities and associations came together at the event in the Parliamentary Society in the heart of Berlin's government district. Following a briefing by State Secretary Stefan Schnorr, the intensive discussion focused primarily on technical possibilities and the sometimes fragmented responsibilities. After all, Germany is in an excellent regulatory position, but there is a lack of equipment and personnel at the regulatory and security authorities to monitor and enforce compliance with the rules.
UAV DACH is committed to creating a suitable technological and regulatory framework in Germany and Europe in order to be able to detect uncooperative drones on time and defend against them in an emergency, thereby enabling safe commercial operation. This includes active participation in a joint working group with the German Aerospace Industries Association. This group is currently developing specific and practical recommendations for a national strategy for drone detection and defense.
