Bavaria Launches Central UAS Hub to Boost Drone Industry

With the “Bavarian Coordination Center for Drones,” the German federal state of Bavaria is creating a central point of contact for manufacturers, operators, and commercial users to support them in implementing business models based on UAS technology. This was announced by Bavarian Deputy Minister-President Hubert Aiwanger at the “AAM Forum 2025” in Oberpfaffenhofen. The BayKD will be based at the bavAIRia aerospace cluster and funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development, and Energy.

One of the main topics of the AAM Forum, organized by UAV DACH member bavAIRia, was the exchange of information on the status quo of the UAS industry. Representatives of our members brigkAIR, Wingcopter, and Skyeton, among others, provided insights into current use cases and specific findings from professional UAS operations. Of course, the currently dominant topic of detecting and defending against illegally operated drones also played a central role. Michael Wieland, board member of the Association for Unmanned Aviation, presented the recommendations for action developed jointly by UAV DACH and the German Aerospace Industries Association to combat illegal UAS use.

There was broad consensus among participants that open dialogue and intensive cooperation are crucial to overcoming the many challenges, large and small, currently facing the developing UAS industry. Meeting places such as the AAM Forum and specialist conferences such as the EUROPEAN DRONE FORUM at XPONENTIAL Europe also play an important role in this context. International exchange and networking provide a valuable basis for jointly shaping the future of unmanned aviation in Europe.
