Dr. Falk Götten Elected as New JARUS Chairman

After more than four and a half years as chairman of the Joint Authorities for Rulemaking on Unmanned Systems, Giovanni Di Antonio, Director of Technological Innovation at the Italian Civil Aviation Authority ENAC (Ente Nazionale per l'Aviazione Civile), announced his retirement from the JARUS leadership. His successor has now been appointed. Representatives from a total of 73 member organizations elected Dr. Falk Götten (photo), Head of the “Operating Licenses/LUC” section in Department B 5 “Unmanned Aircraft Systems” of the German Federal Aviation Authority, as the new JARUS Chairman.

The position of deputy chairman has also been filled. Roberto Honorato from Brazil's National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC, Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil) succeeds Catalin Radu (Kazakhstan).

The Joint Authorities for Rulemaking on Unmanned Systems (JARUS) is an international expert committee that develops recommendations for a globally harmonized legal framework and uniform process specifications for safe UAS operation. Perhaps the best-known result of JARUS' work is the SORA (Specific Operational Risk Assessment) procedure for assessing and mitigating the potential risks posed by a UAS operating scenario, which is used in Europe and many other parts of the world.
