Directly elected representatives from 299 districts are supposed to represent regional interests in the German Bundestag and ensure balanced geographic representation in Parliament. CDU politician Henri Schmidt currently serves as the representative for District 010 (Herzogtum Lauenburg – Stormarn-Süd) in Berlin. There, he is particularly active in the areas of digital and defense policy. These are two areas currently receiving special attention and which are also of enormous importance with regard to the UAS industry.
During a meeting with Henri Schmidt in Ratzeburg, UAV DACH Chairman Dr. Gerald Wissel explained both the potential of commercial unmanned aviation for Germany as a business location and the enormous challenges facing the European UAS industry. Among other things, the open exchange focused on the need to build up industrial manufacturing capacities for UAS and related products in order to establish European resilience at both the economic and military levels.
Dr. Gerald Wissel and Henri Schmidt agreed to continue the dialogue they had begun and, if necessary, to intensify it in a parliamentary context as well as in other discussion formats.
