Safety is a top priority in unmanned aviation. In the light of the increasing digitalisation of airspace and potential illegal external interference, information security and data protection are also extremely important for the smooth operation of UAS. This is particularly true when drones are used by authorities and organisations with security tasks ('BOS').
In order to provide public safety organisations with practical guidance on ensuring the greatest possible IT resilience, the Competence Group IT Safety & Security at UAV DACH, headed by Marco Müller-ter Jung, has developed an IT baseline protection profile for the operation of unmanned aircraft systems in public safety organisations. The experts built on the basic protection profile for UAS use in the ‘open’ operating category presented last year and, in consultation with experts from national security authorities, developed guidelines tailored to the requirements of organisations with security tasks.
The ‘IT baseline protection profile for the operation of uncrewed aircraft systems in public authorities and organisations with security tasks’ fits into the established system of IT baseline protection profiles from the German Federal Office for Information Security and can be downloaded free of charge from the BSI website (German language): https://www.bit.ly/IT-Grundschutz-Profil_BOS
