The Competence Group Operations (CG Ops) supports the entire lifecycle of drones: from the development of viable operational concepts to the removal of practical obstacles to sustainable commercial drone use. In collaboration with supervisory and regulatory authorities, the experts are working to simplify and expedite application procedures and to develop practical procedures for safe commercial drone operations.
CG Ops monitors legal developments at the European and national levels and evaluates them in terms of their practical operational feasibility. “These include for example the current EASA Opinion No. 06/2026 and the EASA proposal on U-Space Level 1,” explains Dr. Paul Mathias Marczona, Head of CG Ops and UAS Legal Manager at DB Fahrwegdienste GmbH. In addition, the Competence Group is currently working with CG IT Safety & Security to examine the operational implications of the Cyber Resilience Act on UAS operations in Europe.
Marczona emphasizes that the geozones in Germany are a real “ongoing issue.” “Here, we are working together with all stakeholders to strike a fair balance between legitimate safety concerns and the right to use airspace.”
The UAV DACH association takes a holistic view of the entire unmanned aviation ecosystem in all its facets. That is why Paul decided to get involved with the association. In his view, a UAS operator must bring together technology, infrastructure, operational procedures, and qualified personnel while also addressing regulatory and strategic issues. Viable solutions for the future of unmanned aviation can only be developed through an interdisciplinary approach, which is why the exchange between the Competence undProject Groups unverzichtbar ist. „Ich bin davon überzeugt, dass Drohnen nur dann nachhaltig und wertschöpfend im beruflichen Alltag ankommen, wenn fundiertes Wissen aus allen Bereichen zusammenfließt.“
