Head of the Advisory Committee

As part of the amendment to the Articles of Association in March this year, the central role of the Advisory Committee (AC) within the European Association for Unmanned Aviation was recognised. Within the AC, the heads of our Competence Groups discuss current and future challenges facing the UAS industry and advise the Executive Board on technical, regulatory and strategic issues concerning the future of commercial unmanned aviation in Europe. The committee is chaired by Michael Wieland.

In doing so, the AC does not merely support the drafting of statements and recommendations. It also develops its own initiatives, concepts and proposals to advance current discussions and play an active role in shaping the future development of the UAS industry. In this way, the committee helps to identify challenges at an early stage, devise potential solutions and support technical dialogue with politicians, public authorities and other stakeholders.

What many people do not realise is that, before a statement or position paper is published, UAV DACH always undergoes a structured process of forming opinions and reaching consensus. The relevant specialist committees first draw up a draft, which is then submitted to all members for comment. Only after the feedback has been incorporated and the matter has been discussed again by the Advisory Committee and the Executive Board is a coordinated and robust position established, the quality and substance of which politicians, public authorities and other stakeholders can rely on.

“The Advisory Committee provides the framework for coordinating the association’s professional work and ensuring its quality. It is crucial that we pool our members’ expertise and use it to develop coordinated positions. At the same time, we see ourselves as a driving force for the sector: we put issues on the agenda, develop potential solutions and lay the foundations for a constructive dialogue on the further development of unmanned aviation,” explains Michael Wieland, Head of the Advisory Committee at UAV DACH.

Would you like to play an active role in shaping the future of unmanned aviation? If so, why not contribute your expertise to the work of our expert committees?
