Line Inspection (LIN)
The Application Group Line Inspection sets technical benchmarks for drone inspections of power lines, pipelines and tracks, covering VLOS and BVLOS missions in the Open, Specific and Certified categories. It distils SORA risks into Operational Safety Objectives and Means of Compliance—e.g. Light-UAS.2510-01—and validates detect-and-avoid, remote-ID and sensor setups against cost studies showing drones outperform helicopters, ensuring high safety standards remain economically sustainable.
Head
Dirk is Product Manager for drone-based pipeline inspection at Thyssengas. He brings more than 25 years of geo-intelligence, GIS and UAS know-how to the energy sector. He spearheads Airborne Intelligent Monitoring of Infrastructures, Thyssengas’ flagship program that replaces helicopter with AI-supported BVLOS drone flights, making pipeline surveillance safer, greener and far more cost-efficient. He lectures on „Geo-Intelligence” at South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences and advocates within industry bodies for pragmatic European regulations.
Deputy Head
René Wagner is the founder and owner of Berlin-based consultancy Dronesolut, which specialises in securing regulatory approvals and managing complex drone operations for surveying, logistics and inspection missions. An aeronautical engineer, licensed pilot and certified project manager, he leverages aviation-lean expertise gained as a senior consultant at Lumics, the McKinsey & Lufthansa Technik joint venture, to streamline unmanned-aircraft workflows.
