With the Notice of Proposed Amendment (NPA) 2024-06, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has published a draft regulatory framework for the operation of aeroplanes. unmanned systems and eVTOLs which addresses both the initial airworthiness and the continuing airworthiness of unmanned aircraft systems that are subject to certification and are to be operated in the "Specific" or "Certified" operating categories.
EASA's declared aim is to contribute to an EU-wide standardised and of course highest possible level of safety for the operation of UAS for the carriage of goods and passengers ("air taxis"). The Acceptable Means of Compliance (AMC) to be drawn up on the basis of the NPA documents and the corresponding Guidance Material (GM) are intended to serve as guidelines for the responsible national aviation authorities in the EU Member States once they have been adopted by EASA and to support them in implementing and monitoring the legal framework.
The responsible UAV DACH Competence Groups Operations & Maintenance (A, C-E) and Design & Manufacturing (B) are currently working on NPA 2024-06, which is divided into five sections, and are developing a corresponding comment proposal.
All members of our association will then have the opportunity to make comments and further suggestions and to contribute individually to the finalisation of an official association opinion. Afterwords it will be submitted to EASA as a comprehensive statement from UAV DACH. The comment period ends on 04 December 2024.
